How to Survive Running a Youth Leadership Group in 2020:

Youth leadership and activism through YACs are at the heart of everything MOASH does from program assessment to implementation. Over the past twelve years, MOASH has grown from having only one YAC to five. In this time, we have developed numerous best practices for youth recruitment, engagement, and retention in program delivery, leadership, and YACs. In this session, MOASH staff, along with current and former YAC members, will share what they’ve learned throughout this time. MOASH was successfully running programs both in-person and virtually before the COVID-19 pandemic forced everything online. Participants will have the opportunity to hear what has worked over the years and what has not, as well as having the opportunity for questions and answers with YAC members and facilitators. Youth engagement has its own challenges but when you add 2020’s innumerable challenges, tricky topics, and shift to fully virtual work, it can feel almost impossible. Participants will have the chance to reflect on their own youth groups and plan concrete next steps to further enrich their youth work.
